Dodge/Evernham Motorsports
The worst kept secret in NASCAR is the Avenger body with a new and improved nose will be used, hopefully with better results, before the COT comes on track. And that takes techno wizards. Ray says, “Every year the technology budget doesn’t just grow by hundreds of thousands, some times it goes up by millions. Right now, Evernham Motorsports has 330 people with more than 50 people dedicated to engineering and design…We hope to be the first team to put the Avenger in Victory Lane.”

Speedway Motorsports Inc.
Lowes Motor Speedway has a new nickname – The Beast of the Southeast. The main grandstand at Lowe’s will get a $4 million makeover, Bristol will get new concrete, and Texas will get their ‘bump’ fixed. Humpy Wheeler wants to go ALL COT in ’08, a good idea, and Bruton wants the Awards Banquet to leave the Big Apple for Sin City (Las Vegas)- Oh yeah!

Haas/CNC
Lunch in their new shop – teams like Haas/CNC and Ginn Racing are the future of NASCAR as they are taking the bull by the horns. Haas/CNC has a Seven Point machine that can simulate suspension travel while rolling the wheels. Can you imagine a computer program to simulate each track and race? Teams already do this on dynos for engines and now are doing the same for chassis set-ups. That way they can come to the track with a set-up that is much closer than ever possible, and then spend their valuable track-time fine-tuning the car for the race conditions. Hey NASCAR, go ahead and limit the on-track testing sessions you have allowed – we’ll do them without leaving our shop now. These guys are  doing what F1 has been doing for years. And people still think NASCAR is technologically behind other series…
Haas/CNC racing 7-post suspension “shaker” machine is a chassis tuning tool that allows them to test and set-up a chassis before they put a wheel on track. And some think stock car racing is low-tech.

Richard Petty and Junior Johnson attended the ground-breaking for the NASCAR Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte, NC – the city fought hard for this facility.

NASCAR Hall of Fame Groundbreaking

A star-studded crowd of NASCAR dignitaries and history made it official and the NASCAR Hall of Fame is underway in downtown Charlotte. It was said there that they couldn’t have gotten that kind of turnout in Atlanta and they’re right. Let’s just hope nobody gets territorial over this thing.

Final note: We counted the use of the word ‘Excited’ over 66 times during the 19 stops and you know what, we still get that way about the Media Tour, even though it’s more of a media cattle drive than it was. Nothing like a pre-start to a new racing season!
